What is the difference between zombies and humans? Do either have souls? Or are zombies a soul? If a soul can even be described. Do humans have souls? Or are they only flesh walking around for their life on earth? These questions are all often asked and some even try to answer them. I am not sure these questions can ever be truly answered until they get answered for us, if that ever even happens.
I can say that zombies definitely are not completely human. They used to be, they still wear the remains of the clothing of who they used to be. That is all they seem to be though, shells and ghosts of their former selves. Since zombies are not human, do they have souls? How do you even begin to describe a soul? For me, if I were going to describe the soul in something I would have to say it could be the part of someone that determines what is good or bad. I have a little trouble saying that is, at least the only thing that makes a soul what it is. If you look at serial killers, most do not have a moral compass that tells them what is good or bad. Still, people say that they are going to hell. This still implies that they have souls. So does that mean zombies have souls as well? That zombies just do not have the capacity to know what is good or bad and are just doing what they know? I say no, that zombies do not have souls. The only reason I say that is, the ones that we are studying, only the brain stem is reanimated. This means that the rest of the brain that controls emotions, empathy, knowledge, memories, none of this is brought back when the body is reanimated into a zombie. This is why zombies are not exactly human. I do believe though, that zombies and humans are similar. Both act on their survival instincts, the need to survive is what makes anything do whatever is necessary to live. This is shown in the newest most recent season of The Walking Dead, when the group from Terminus turned to cannibalism to be able to keep nourished and to destroy the threats that other survivors were to them.
This means that zombies are not souls as well right? Possibly, or maybe they are the “bad” part in humans, the good and bad in humans that contradicts each other. It could be that the “good” part of the soul goes wherever it goes, and the “bad” part stays. This all can change how we understand humans. At least it could help us understand better. All of this doesn’t mean that humans are not just chunks of meat walking around on Earth. Souls are just all speculation. No one knows for sure if humans have souls or not. No one also knows if souls would be what makes up a human or if it is a different component all together. Who knows, maybe we will find out that humans and zombies have way more in common than we think.
